If you can't beat 'em fair...

Obviously it's from a biased blog, but looking at their pattern of attempts to disenfranchise as many voters as possible, it looks like the GOP knows they can't win with their candidate, so they're doing all they can to win by cheating the system.

Well, it worked in '04. And Kerry didn't have a fraction of the black community's vote that Obama does. If the GOP can pull off half the stunts they're attempting (like the foreclosure one), it'll be a pretty big coup for them.

C&L is pretty openly biased - their BS about nuclear power, or claiming the US was going to attack Iran when the Truman had its turnover are good examples. That said if you take the time to dig through what they report, you can usually find some real news there.

I almost always skip or only skim the commentary and only read the articles / watch the clips

If I were a GOP official who wanted to practice voter intimidation and disenfranchisement, why would I pick a solid GOP state, like Alabama, instead of a battleground state?
Daniel[info]enderwastaken on September 21st, 2008 09:07 pm (UTC)
Because the GOTV project of Dean and Obama has turned a lot of "solid" states into much less solid. It also screws up all the redistricting that the GOP has been doing to keep control of the state and county governments, not to mention the congressional races. The idea of monolithic blocks is effectively out the window, and that and the anemic response of the dominionists to McCain (pre Palin) was the biggest strength the Dems had for a while. Between stunts like this and Palin energizing the base, the odds for them grabbing a 60 seat majority in congress have really decreased.
Patrick[info]padraiceen on September 21st, 2008 09:10 pm (UTC)
That's an interesting argument, but it still doesn't explain why the "stunts" are being applied to a "much less solid" but still presumably red state like Alabama and not to a state like Ohio.

They are. In 2004 they disqualified some 30,000 people via mass mailings getting return to senders, this time they did it and got 600,000 back which they are looking to challenge. But they are more focused on overturning the Brunner directive, an act that was a response to their stunts 4 years ago

I fucking hate politics and politicians... useless, all of it.
Chris[info]blurrymystr on September 21st, 2008 10:54 pm (UTC)
They're doing it all over. They're not taking any chances.
Chris[info]blurrymystr on September 21st, 2008 10:55 pm (UTC)
Besides, the bigger margin they win by, the bigger the "mandate" they can trumpet about.
Patrick[info]padraiceen on September 21st, 2008 11:11 pm (UTC)
sarah palin can man date me any time

I have no idea what that means
Patrick[info]padraiceen on September 21st, 2008 11:09 pm (UTC)
That makes more sense, then.
Patrick[info]padraiceen on September 21st, 2008 09:11 pm (UTC)
Wait, nevermind, I don't even care, I just want this fucking election to be over.
